MELBOURNE, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Two people have died after being struck by a falling tree amid severe weather conditions in the Australian island state of Tasmania on Friday.
Tasmania Police said on Friday afternoon that the two people were outside on a rural property in the state's northwest when they were struck by the falling tree.
Both victims were declared deceased at the scene, police said.
The incident occurred as severe winds and heavy rainfall swept across north and northwest Tasmania on Friday.
About 20,000 homes and businesses in Tasmania lost power on Friday, with blackouts expected to last until Sunday for some regions. ■
