HONG KONG -- According to the World University Rankings 2026 released by the Britain-based Times Higher Education (THE), Hong Kong universities have continued to hold top spots, with five institutions ranked in the global top 100.
A spokesperson for the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said on Thursday that the encouraging results fully recognized the achievements of Hong Kong's post-secondary education sector in its pursuit of and endeavor for excellence. KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia-based Top Glove, the world's largest glove maker, has returned to the black in the fiscal year 2025 ended on Aug. 31, 2025, underpinned by improved sales, the firm said Thursday.
Top Glove said in a bourse filing that it posted a net profit of 109.07 million ringgit (25.86 million U.S. dollars) in the fiscal year 2025, as compared to a net loss of 64.88 million ringgit a year ago. (Malaysia-Glove Manufacturing-Growth)

MACAO -- Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government's Public Security Police Force (CPSP) said on Thursday that during China's National Day holiday, which was Oct. 1-8 this year, the Macao SAR recorded more than 5.536 million border crossings, averaging about 692,000 crossings per day.
The CPSP noted that this year's average daily border traffic increased by 2.2 percent compared with the same period last year. On Oct. 4, the city recorded a single-day total of 821,000 crossings, setting a new record for the highest number of border movements during the National Day holiday, also known as "Golden Week." TOKYO -- Powerful Typhoon Halong passed the Izu island chain south of Tokyo on Thursday, prompting Japan's weather agency to temporarily issue a special heavy rain warning and forcing hundreds of residents in the region to take refuge, local media reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) downgraded the heavy rain emergency warning for Hachijo Island in the island chain to a warning at 2:30 p.m. local time, while the weather forced hundreds of residents in the region to take refuge at evacuation centers, Kyodo News reported.
