JERUSALEM, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker Chery launched a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Israel on Sunday, its Israeli dealership Freesbe said in a statement.

The model, Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV -- known in China as the Chery Fulwin T10 -- is a mid-size SUV featuring three rows of seats. It is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine combined with three electric motors and a 34.5-kWh battery, providing an electric-only range of up to 148 km. The model also comes with smart all-wheel drive technology.

Chery, which entered the Israeli market in November 2022, also offers gasoline and fully electric models. Its Jaecoo 7, a plug-in hybrid compact crossover SUV, was Israel's best-selling car in the first three quarters of 2025.

Chinese brands led overall car sales in Israel, with 81,711 units sold between January and September. South Korean brands ranked second with 43,520 units, followed by Japanese brands, which sold 34,242 units.
