NEW DELHI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least two students died and around 10 were injured when a blast occurred in an underground septic tank in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, confirmed a local police officer over the phone.
The incident happened at a coaching center in the state's Farrukhabad district, in an area falling under the Kadri Gate police station. Students were taking coaching classes when the blast occurred.
According to the police, the blast occurred due to an excess concentration of methane gas inside the tank. The impact of the blast was such that its sound was heard at a distance of 1 km from the coaching center. Several houses and vehicles parked near the blast site were badly damaged, said the police. ■
