MADRID, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona announced on Friday afternoon that winger Lamine Yamal has suffered a relapse of the pelvic problems that he suffered while playing with Spain in September and that he will miss Sunday's La Liga game against Sevilla.
"The problems in the pubis that Lamine Yamal has been carrying have reappeared after the match against Paris Saint-Germain [on Wednesday]. He is out against Sevilla and the estimated recovery time is 2-3 weeks," Barcelona said on its website.
The news comes less than five hours after Spain coach Luis de la Fuente included Yamal in his squad for Spain's upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Bulgaria, with the coach rejecting accusations that he had overplayed the 18-year-old in September's matches against Bulgaria and Türkiye.
"We have two very big games in which we are playing for a place at the World Cup and that is very important," the coach said as justification for naming Yamal in his squad.
It now seems certain Yamal will have to drop out of the squad, although it remains to be seen if De la Fuente will call up a replacement.
Barcelona will host Girona in La Liga on October 18, followed by a UEFA Champions League game against Olympiacos three days later.
Yamal's injury in September saw him miss wins against Valencia, Newcastle United, Getafe and Oviedo. He returned to action as a second-half substitute against Real Sociedad last Sunday. ■
