BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Olympic and world champions Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha of China were crowned in mixed doubles with a straight-game victory over compatriots Huang Youzheng and Chen Yi at the WTT China Smash on Friday.
The sixth seeds emerged victorious 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 over the wildcard pair.
"We didn't expect the scoreline to be 3-0," Sun said. "Huang and Chen are a young pair, and they just started competing together. We did a very good job in getting ourselves motivated and on our transition."
"We didn't expect to win the title here. We had very good communication and we had the same goal. Today our execution and communication were both better than before," Wang noted.
Both Wang and Sun had other titles to contend for at Shougang Park, with Wang facing Japan's Sora Matsushima in the men's singles quarterfinals and partnering Lin Shidong to meet fellow Chinese Zhou Qihao and Chen Junsong in the men's doubles final on Saturday, while Sun will vie for a women's singles final spot with teammate Chen Xingtong. ■
