RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Tapia and Luciano Neves scored in each half as 10-man Sao Paulo registered a 2-0 away win over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A on Thursday.

Chilean forward Tapia opened the scoring by pouncing on a loose ball before turning and, in the same motion, firing the ball into the bottom-left corner.

But the visitors suffered a blow in the 22nd minute when Emiliano Rigoni was shown a straight red card for stamping on forward Deyverson.

Fortaleza dominated possession thereafter but lacked incisiveness in the final third.

Sao Paulo added a second goal with a counterattacking move that began and ended with Luciano, who tapped in from point-blank range after Enzo Diaz's cross.

The result leaves Sao Paulo seventh in the 20-team Serie A standings with 38 points, 17 ahead of 19th-placed Fortaleza.

Elsewhere in Brazil's Serie A on Thursday, Vitoria won 1-0 at home to Ceara, and leaders Flamengo was held to a goalless home draw by Cruzeiro.
