SUVA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The government of Fiji is taking decisive action to combat the drug trade, Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua said in parliament on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the Fiji Police Force has seized a total of 19.337 tons of marijuana during its operations since March 2025, with an estimated street value of 194.2 million Fijian dollars (around 85.9 million U.S. dollars).

During the same period, police also seized 4.9 kg of methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately 1.3 million dollars.

Naivalurua said these seizures are a clear indicator that synthetic drugs are increasingly making inroads into Fijian communities, alongside traditional cultivation.

The Ministry of Policing has established a Counter Narcotics Bureau and implemented the nation's first Fiji Counter Narcotics Strategy 2023-2028.
