MADRID, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Monday night's scheduled La Liga game between Valencia FC and Real Oviedo has been suspended due to a red alert for storms along the east-coast of Spain.
"Due to a weather alert, the club recommend taking precautions and following the instructions of the authorities," advised Valencia FC on its social media sites, confirming the match will be played on Tuesday.
The Oviedo team is in the city after flying on Sunday in order to avoid the worst of the predicted weather.
The region around Valencia has experienced rainfall of around 200 liters per square meter in some areas, with schools closed for the day and around 500,000 students without classes as a precaution and several flights diverted from Valencia airport.
Meanwhile local government operatives have closed road tunnels to avoid cars being trapped by rising flood water. ■
