BUCHAREST -- Moldova's ruling Party of Action and Solidarity secured a majority in Sunday's parliamentary elections with just over half of the vote, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced Monday.

With all polling stations counted, the ruling party won 50.2 percent of the vote, followed by the Patriotic Electoral Bloc with 24.17 percent, the Alternative Bloc with 7.96 percent, Our Party with 6.2 percent and the Democracy at Home Party with 5.62 percent. CAIRO -- At least eight people were killed and 14 others injured on Monday when a passenger bus overturned on a desert road in southern Egypt's Minya province, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

The accident occurred when the bus was carrying passengers from Minya to Cairo, according to the Minya Province's Facebook page. The injured were transported to the Samalut Medical Center in Minya for treatment. (Egypt-Bus accident)

MANILA -- The death toll in the three successive typhoons that barreled through the Philippines this week, combined with flooding from the southwest monsoon, has climbed to 27, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.

NEW YORK -- At least four people were killed and eight others injured on Sunday after a shooter targeted a church and set the building aflame in Grand Blanc, Michigan, authorities said.
