TEHRAN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Monday executed a man convicted of espionage on behalf of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad, the Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary reported.

The individual, identified as Bahman Choubi-Asl, was hanged following judicial proceedings and the upholding of his death sentence by the Supreme Court of Iran, Mizan reported.

Choubi-Asl "was one of Israel's most important spies in Iran and had consciously and extensively cooperated with Mossad in the area of database," it reported, adding that owing to his presence in a knowledge-based company, Choubi-Asl had managed to enter Iran's "sensitive" telecommunication projects as manager.

The convict had good access to Iran's critical and sovereign databases, and in his confessions, Choubi-Asl said through cooperating with him, Mossad had sought to gain access to Iranian governmental institutions' databases, infiltrate Iran's data centers, and explore ways to transfer electronic devices to the country, among other things, Mizan reported.

It reported that the convict had received money, among other things, in return for collecting intelligence for Mossad.

The execution followed a similar one conducted by Iran on Sept. 17 on a man identified as Babak Shahbazi, who was also convicted of espionage for Mossad.

According to Mizan's report back then, Shahbazi had been found guilty of intelligence and security cooperation with Israel by selling sensitive information about Iranian data centers to Mossad in return for money and the citizenship of a third country.
