The decommissioning ceremony of the MiG-21 was held at the IAF station in the northern city of Chandigarh.
MiG-21 fighter jets were inducted into the IAF in the early 1960s.
"More than 11,500 MiG-21s were built worldwide, of which approximately 850 served with the IAF," India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who was present at the decommissioning ceremony, said. ■
