LUSAKA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's economy expanded by 5.2 percent in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, up from 1.9 percent recorded in the same period last year, the Zambia Statistics Agency said on Thursday.
The growth represents a 3.3 percentage point increase compared to the second quarter of 2024, Acting Statistician-General Sheila Mudenda told a monthly press briefing in Lusaka, the capital.
She attributed the positive growth to strong performance in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing, which contributed 42.9 percent to the growth, the information and communication, which contributed 20.6 percent, and transportation and storage, which contributed 16.4 percent.
Arts, entertainment, and recreation contributed 15.4 percent, and mining and quarrying contributed 10.4 percent, Mudenda said.
However, she said, water supply, administrative activities, wholesale and trade, as well as electricity, had a negative impact on the economic growth during the period.
Year-on-year inflation fell to 12.3 percent in September, down from 12.6 percent in August, Mudenda said, attributing the decrease to price movements in both food and non-food items. ■
