BRATISLAVA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia's gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to grow by 0.8 percent in 2025 and 0.5 percent in 2026, both lower than earlier estimates, according to the country's central bank on Thursday.

In its June forecast, the central bank had expected the economy to expand by 1.2 percent in 2025 and 1.6 percent in 2026, the News Agency of the Slovak Republic reported.

Central bank governor Peter Kazimir attributed the downward revision mainly to a weakening external environment and the need for fiscal consolidation.

Inflation is expected to reach 4.2 percent this year and 3.6 percent next year.

Kazimir also highlighted the challenging global backdrop. "We're living in the era of trade wars, real wars, huge geopolitical tension and political tensions in Europe, around the world and also at home, all of which work against any economy in the world," he said.
