BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.83 percent to 3,853.64 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.8 percent higher at 13,356.14 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.33 trillion yuan (about 328 billion U.S. dollars) -- down from 2.49 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to semiconductors and back-contact batteries led the gains, while those related to tourism and hotels saw notable declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.28 percent to close at 3,185.57 points. ■
