BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.18 percent to 3,821.83 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.29 percent lower at 13,119.82 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.49 trillion yuan (about 350.4 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to port shipping and banking led the gains, while shares related to tourism saw notable declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.21 percent to close at 3,114.55 points. ■
