KABUL, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10 production factories valued at 60 million U.S. dollars were officially inaugurated in an industrial park in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the provincial government office said in a statement on Tuesday.
The new facilities are projected to create hundreds of jobs and alleviate poverty for numerous families, said Sheikh Mawlana Islamjar, Herat governor, during the inauguration ceremony.
The factories span diverse sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, food production, fiberglass manufacturing, and jute processing, the statement detailed.
This variety aims to address key needs in healthcare, nutrition, and materials production while reducing reliance on imports, it said.
The initiative aligns with the Afghan government's broader strategy to combat widespread poverty, stabilize the economy, and promote industrial growth amid severe financial constraints in the war-ravaged country. ■
