COLOMBO, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government has allocated 45 billion rupees (about 150 million U.S. dollars) to complete stalled hospital construction and development projects within the next two years, a minister said on Monday.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa told a gathering in the Eastern province that 1,900 health support staff will be recruited within the next two months, and close to 1,000 new nurses will also be recruited in the next eight months.
Jayatissa said a program to provide motorcycles for health workers engaged in field duties will begin in April 2026.
He added that in the 2026 budget, they plan to allocate over 550 billion rupees (1.83 billion dollars) for the health ministry. ■
