NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.3 percent to 97.644 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro slipped to 1.1748 dollars from 1.1779 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3469 dollars from 1.3550 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 147.96 Japanese yen, higher than 147.95 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7955 Swiss francs from 0.7927 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3776 Canadian dollars from 1.3807 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.4147 Swedish kronor from 9.3655 Swedish kronor. ■
