COLOMBO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10,000 three-wheeler drivers across Sri Lanka who provide transport services to tourists will undergo special training programs organized by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, it was announced on Saturday.
Additional Secretary to the President S.P.C. Sugeeshwara told the media that tourists visiting the country often lack proper facilities and sometimes encounter weaknesses in service delivery.
Using transport as an example, he noted that tourists have at times faced difficulties, including being overcharged. Such practices, he said, hinder the growth of the tourism industry and damage the country's international image.
Sugeeshwara said training programs have been designed for those working in the tourism sector. Drivers selected for the first phase of training will receive official certification upon completion. ■
