BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.15 percent to 3,831.66 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.06 percent lower at 13,075.66 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 3.14 trillion yuan (about 442 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.38 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to the tourism and chip sectors led the gains, while shares in non-ferrous metals and finance industries saw notable declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.64 percent to close at 3,095.85 points. ■
