JAKARTA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI), on Wednesday lowered its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 4.75 percent in an effort to accelerate the country's economic expansion, according to BI Governor Perry Warjiyo.

At its Board of Governors meeting, the central bank also reduced the deposit facility rate by 50 basis points to 3.75 percent and the lending facility rate by 25 basis points to 5.5 percent, Warjiyo added.

He noted that the move was intended to support faster economic growth in line with government initiatives.

Warjiyo said that Bank Indonesia remains committed to keeping inflation under control within the target range of 1.5 percent to 3.5 percent in 2025 and 2026, while safeguarding rupiah exchange rate stability in accordance with economic fundamentals.

"Going forward, Bank Indonesia will continue to monitor the outlook for growth and inflation, making use of available space to adjust the BI rate while ensuring rupiah stability," he added.
