ISLAMABAD, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and several others injured when militants launched a coordinated attack on police and paramilitary troops' Levies stations in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Wednesday, police sources said.

Around eight to 10 militants targeted both stations in Sherani district in the early hours of the morning, the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

"The attackers, positioned on a nearby mountain, used heavy firing and rockets against the two facilities, which are located some 200 meters apart," the sources added.

About 25 police personnel and 10 Levies officials were present at the time of the assault, the sources said, adding that all the killed and injured are police and Levies personnel.

The attack also caused several vehicles to catch fire due to rocket strikes, the sources said.

A contingent of the paramilitary troops Frontier Corps reached the site soon after, while Anti-Terrorism Force and Counter-Terrorism Department teams were also dispatched to the area.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
