RAMALLAH, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire early on Tuesday during a raid in the northern West Bank city of Qalqilya, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
The ministry said the General Authority of Civil Affairs had informed it that the dead were identified as Wasim Khalil Mousa Abu Ali, 41, and Khaled Nemer Sweilem Hassan, 34.
Qalqilya Governor Hossam Abu Hamda told reporters that an Israeli special unit opened fire on a vehicle carrying five Palestinians, killing two, wounding one, and detaining two others. He said Israeli forces withheld the bodies of the dead, while the condition of the wounded man was not immediately known.
There is no immediate response from the Israeli side.
The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel, with about 950 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces, according to Palestinian officials. ■
