SEOUL, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume grew for the seventh straight month in August due to solid demand for electronic products, central bank data showed Tuesday.

The export volume index rose 5.4 percent in August from a year earlier, continuing to gain since February, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, outbound shipment for computers, electronic and optical devices soared 17.6 percent in August on a yearly basis, maintaining a double-digit growth for the sixth consecutive month.

Export volume for chemicals, metal products, electrical equipment and machinery recorded a single-digit reduction, but those for oil products and transport equipment increased in single figures.

The export value index climbed 2.0 percent in August compared to the same month of last year, keeping an upward trend for the third successive month.

The import volume index added 2.2 percent in the cited month, but the import value index declined 3.8 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 2.9 percent in August on a yearly basis on the back of faster fall in import price than export price.
