KABUL, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan has launched the second phase of the fourth section of Herat-Khaf railway valued at over 54 million U.S. dollars.
It aimed to bolster the country's railway connectivity to Iran and global trade networks, according to the provincial government office.
During a ceremony in the western Herat province, Governor Sheikh Mawlana Islamjar said that the move signified major progress of the fourth section, forging a railway link from Afghanistan to Iran and extending to Europe.
The 47-km-segment will push the line closer to Herat's industrial hubs and the airport, streamlining cargo movement and unlocking fresh economic prospects for nearby residents.
The railway, a 225-km cross-border project, links Iran's Khaf with Afghanistan's Herat province. ■
