RIGA, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The North Atlantic Treaty Organization's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Alexus Grynkewich visited Latvia on Friday to discuss strengthening Baltic air defense amid heightened regional tensions, local media reported.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics urged a faster launch of a Baltic air defense mission during the talks, presidential spokesman Martins Dregeris said. Discussions focused on the regional security situation, NATO force deployments, and planned military activity along the alliance's eastern flank.
Grynkewich praised Latvia's commitment to spend 5 percent of GDP on defense and meet NATO capability targets. ■
