NEW DELHI, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people died and around 15 others were injured when a speeding truck rammed into a group of people carrying a religious procession on a busy highway in India's southern state of Karnataka on Friday night, confirmed a local policeman over phone.
The accident occurred in the state's Hassan district.
The accident reportedly happened as the truck driver took a sharp turn to avoid a biker driving rashly on the highway. Many people who were a part of the procession were crushed in the accident.
According to the police, there were a few people with serious injuries. The death toll was feared to rise, he added. ■
