KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's tourism generated 291.9 billion ringgit (69.33 billion U.S. dollars), contributing 15.1 percent to the economy in 2024, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the tourism industry grew 7.4 percent in 2024.
According to the DOSM, all tourism sub-sectors had surpassed the pre-pandemic level of 2019, except for accommodation and passenger transport services which have not fully recovered.
Malaysia's inbound tourism expenditure expanded 41.1 percent to 107 billion ringgit in 2024.
Domestic tourism expenditure expanded 25.1 percent to 98.4 billion ringgit. (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollars) ■
