KATHMANDU, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's hotel sector has suffered losses of 25 billion Nepali rupees in recent protests across the country, the industry association said on Friday.
Nearly two dozens of hotels, both domestic and international brands, suffered extensive damage in vandalism and arson attacks on Sept. 9 in Kathmandu and other parts of the country, the Hotel Association Nepal said in a statement.
"Damage to Hilton Hotel in Kathmandu alone is estimated at more than 8 billion rupees, with nationwide losses projected to exceed 25 billion rupees," the statement noted.
The association called for a relief package to the industry, saying it is difficult for the hotels affected to repay lenders. (1 Nepali rupee equals 0.007 U.S. dollars) ■
