SANAA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group said on Thursday it has launched a "hypersonic ballistic missile" and three drones toward Israel, while the Israeli military said it intercepted two threats with no damage reported.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement on the group's al-Masirah TV that the missile and one drone targeted unspecified sites in Israel's Negev desert, while two other drones were aimed at Ramon Airport in the southern city of Eilat. He described the attacks as "successful."

The Israeli military said sirens sounded in southern Israel on Thursday morning after a projectile was fired from Yemen and intercepted. Later in the day, it said a "hostile aircraft infiltration" also triggered sirens and was intercepted. Israeli media reported no casualties or damage.

The Houthis' claim came a day after Israeli airstrikes on the Houthi-held capital Sanaa killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 130, according to Houthi-run health authorities.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have launched repeated missile and drone attacks on Israel since November 2023, saying they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. They have escalated their attacks since an Israeli strike in Sanaa last month killed 12 senior members of the group.

The Houthis have vowed to continue their campaign until the Gaza war ends.
