MINSK, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Belarus reported shooting down several drones over its airspace overnight, the Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
Belarus informed Poland and Lithuania about drones approaching their territories, said Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Muraveiko.
During drone exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, Belarusian air defense tracked drones that veered off course due to electronic warfare, with some being shot down over Belarus, he said.
Belarus shared air and radar data with Poland and Lithuania between 11 p.m. (2000 GMT) Tuesday and 4 a.m. (0100 GMT) Wednesday, enabling Polish forces to respond. Poland also alerted Belarus to unidentified drones near its border from Ukraine, Muraveiko said.
The Belarusian side emphasized that such exchanges strengthen regional security and trust, and pledged continued cooperation with Poland and the Baltic states on airspace monitoring.
Poland also claimed it shot down several of "a large number of Russian drones" that violated its airspace overnight. Addressing the Polish parliament on Wednesday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that a number of the drones flew into the country from Belarus. ■
