SYDNEY, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- A teenage girl has died from her injuries four days after being attacked by a dog at a home north of Sydney.
Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement on Tuesday that the 17-year-old girl died in hospital on Monday.
Emergency services were called to a home in the town of Singleton, 145 km north of Sydney, at around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 4 and found the 17-year-old girl with injuries to her head, neck and body.
She was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
NSW Police said that the girl was at a friend's home when she was attacked by a 10-year-old mixed-breed dog that lived there.
Local Area Police Commander Justin Cornes said at a press conference on Friday that bystanders who witnessed the attack pulled the dog off the girl before calling for help.
The dog was euthanized by police with the consent of the owner, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. ■
