SANAA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group claimed firing three drones Monday afternoon targeting the Israeli airports of Ben Gurion and Ramon, as well as a "sensitive" target in the Dimona area of southern Israel.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement aired by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV that the operation, which "successfully achieved its objectives," was in support of Gaza.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said in a statement that a drone launched from Yemen triggered warning sirens in Be'er Ora in the Negev Desert, about 20 km north of the Israeli city of Eilat, and that the drone was later intercepted by the Israeli Air Force.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have carried out drone and missile attacks on Israel since November 2023 in what they describe as acts of solidarity with Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Most of the projectiles have been intercepted by Israeli defenses.

Israel has responded with strikes on Houthi-held areas, targeting airports, power stations, and ports in Sanaa and Hodeidah.
