CAIRO, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- A rare total lunar eclipse cast a dramatic "blood moon" over Egypt's night sky, creating a breathtaking spectacle above the Great Pyramids of Giza.

As the Earth's shadow covered the Moon, thousands of stargazers and photographers captured the celestial alignment, with the ancient pyramids providing a timeless backdrop. The deep red glow of the Moon illuminated the desert horizon, blending cosmic wonder with one of humanity's oldest monuments.

Astronomers note that such total lunar eclipses, often called blood moons for their crimson hue, are visible only a few times each decade. For many in Cairo, the sight of the Moon suspended above the pyramids was a moment where science, history, and beauty converged.
