ISTANBUL, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers were killed and at least three others, including a civilian, were injured on Monday in an attack on a police station in Türkiye's western port city of Izmir, local authorities reported.
Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay said on X that the "treacherous attack" happened at the Salih Isgoren police station in the Balcova district.
The assailant, reportedly a 16-year-old teenager, has been taken into custody, said Izmir Public Prosecutor Ali Yeldan in a live broadcast from the scene.
According to Turkish broadcaster NTV, the attack was carried out by a masked gunman wielding a pump-action shotgun, who was apprehended after being wounded.
Extensive security measures have been implemented in the area. ■
