HANOI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese consumers will soon be able to choose their electricity retailers as the country restructures its power sector to promote competition and transparency, the local media VNExpress reported.
The reform allows for the implementation of direct power purchase agreements and aims to separate retail activities from the state-run enterprise Vietnam Electricity, which currently holds a monopoly.
Vietnam targets an installed capacity of 183 to 236 gigawatts by 2030, while accelerating nuclear and offshore wind power projects to ensure adequate electricity.
In addition, authorities will promote large-scale energy storage, upgrade pricing policies, and train 25,000 to 35,000 energy specialists, especially in nuclear and clean energy. ■
