HANOI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam has emphasized the importance of developing nuclear power, while stressing that safety must be ensured through strict adherence to international standards, the local media VnExpress reported.
He made the remarks while visiting the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute on Thursday.
He noted that the development of atomic energy, particularly nuclear power in Vietnam, is an urgent requirement to ensure national energy security, fulfill carbon neutrality commitments and create momentum for industrialization and modernization.
Vietnam was restarting the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, with Ninh Thuan 1 and 2 plants expected to be put into operation between 2030 and 2035, the report said. ■
