BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.24 percent to 3,812.51 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.89 percent higher at 12,590.56 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.3 trillion yuan (about 323.65 billion U.S. dollars) -- down from 2.54 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the solid-state battery, photovoltaic and third-generation semiconductor sectors led the gains, while banking and dairy stocks saw the biggest decline.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 6.55 percent to close at 2,958.18 points. ■
