JAKARTA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Thursday named former Education Minister Nadiem Makarim a suspect in a graft case that allegedly caused state losses of 1.9 trillion rupiah (120 million U.S. dollars).
The case is linked to the procurement of laptops under a nationwide digitalization program, a flagship policy introduced during Makarim's tenure.
Sufficient evidence to name the former minister as a suspect has been gathered, said Nurcahyo Jungkung Madyo, the AGO's director for special crimes investigations.
Makarim has been charged under the 1999 Corruption Eradication Law and the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment for causing state losses and misusing public funds. ■
