NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 249.07 points, or 0.55 percent, to 45,295.81. The S&P 500 sank 44.72 points, or 0.69 percent, to 6,415.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 175.92 points, or 0.82 percent, to close at 21,279.63.
Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with real estate and industrials leading the laggards by losing 1.74 percent and 1.06 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and consumer staples led the gainers by adding 0.23 percent and 0.07 percent, respectively. ■
