NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.69 percent to 98.382 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1645 dollars from 1.1708 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound slipped to 1.3386 dollars from 1.3544 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 148.28 Japanese yen, higher than 147.22 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.8038 Swiss francs from 0.8010 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3780 Canadian dollars from 1.3752 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.4472 Swedish kronor from 9.3916 Swedish kronor. ■
