PHNOM PENH, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia had detained 17,480 drug-related suspects in the first eight months of 2025, slightly down 0.5 percent from 17,574 over the same period last year, said an Anti-Drug Department (ADP)'s report on Monday.

Among them are 698 foreigners of 20 nationalities, the report said.

"A total of 7.76 tons of illicit drugs had been confiscated from those suspects' possession during the January-August period this year," the report said.

The amount of seized drugs this year saw a significant rise from 5.75 tons over the same period last year, the report added.

Most of the confiscated narcotics were ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and cathinone.

The Southeast Asian nation has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers. Under its law, those found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drugs could be imprisoned for life.
