ISLAMABAD -- Rain-related incidents across Pakistan claimed 31 lives and injured 26 others from Sunday to Monday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Monday.
The eastern Punjab province recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 25 people losing their lives, including eight children and two women. Four deaths were reported from the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, while one child died in southwest Balochistan. One casualty was also recorded in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. KABUL -- The death toll from the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan's Kunar and Nangarhar provinces has risen to 622, with 1,555 others injured, the country's Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Monday.
The death toll in Kunar has reached 610, with 1,300 people injured and numerous homes destroyed. In Nangarhar, 12 people have been killed, 255 injured, and dozens of houses damaged, according to the ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani. (Afghanistan-Earthquake)

JAKARTA -- A helicopter carrying eight people has gone missing after losing contact with air traffic control in Indonesia's South Kalimantan province on Monday, according to Dendy Prasetyo, a press officer for the provincial search and rescue office.

TOKYO -- Pretax profits in Japan's manufacturing sector fell 11.5 percent year on year during the April-June quarter as U.S. tariff measures hit automakers particularly hard, official data showed Monday.
