BAGHDAD, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Saturday held a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss bilateral relations, ways to strengthen cooperation across various fields, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of Macron's upcoming visit to Baghdad and reiterated Iraq's appreciation for France's principled stance on the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that "the ongoing violations in the Palestinian territories represent a dangerous precedent that further complicates the international situation and poses real challenges to the global order," read a statement by al-Sudani's media office.
The Iraqi prime minister also warned of the risks of a new war threatening the region's security and stability, underscoring Iraq's readiness to work with France and all partners, including Iran and the United States, to avoid sliding into another confrontation.
For his part, Macron reaffirmed France's pride in the depth of its strategic relations with Iraq and its willingness to continue supporting Iraq, expressing hope that his upcoming visit to Baghdad will achieve practical objectives. ■
