LJUBLJANA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's annual inflation rate rose to a 16-month high in August, driven mainly by higher food prices, the country's Statistical Office said Friday.
Consumer prices increased by 3 percent year-on-year in August, compared with 2.8 percent in July and 0.9 percent in the same month of 2024. This marks the highest level since April 2024, the office said in a report.
"Higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages remain the main factor of annual inflation," the report noted. Prices in this category were 7.6 percent higher than a year earlier.
Clothing and footwear prices rose by 6.9 percent, while restaurant and hotel services were up 5.1 percent. Service prices overall increased by 3.1 percent, and goods prices gained 3 percent year-on-year.
Analysts say the inflation trend reflects rising wages, which surged by 7.4 percent in June compared with the same period last year, according to official data. ■
