NEW DELHI, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were killed and one went missing Saturday after fresh rains triggered cloudbursts and a landslide in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The cloudbursts and landslide hit the Reasi and Ramban districts, both located south of Srinagar.
"Early today at village Karara of Reasi district, seven members of a family were buried alive after a landslide triggered by a cloudburst amid heavy rainfall flattened their house. The villagers have recovered the bodies," an official said.
In another incident, four people were killed and one went missing following a cloudburst in Rajgad village of Ramban district.
Saturday's incidents were the latest in a series of such tragedies that have hit the region recently during the monsoon.
Last week, heavy rains in the region triggered flooding and unleashed a wave of devastation, claiming at least 41 lives and causing damage to infrastructure on a large scale. ■
