JERUSALEM, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Friday that its forces had arrested several suspects in southern Syria in nighttime operations over the past few days.
The IDF claimed that the detainees were involved in promoting militant activities against Israeli troops in southern Syria.
It added that during searches conducted by the forces, weapons were found in areas where they operated.
The operations were carried out by the IDF's 226th Paratrooper Brigade, in cooperation with the 504th elite intelligence unit, which operates undercover agents outside Israeli territory.
The Syrian authorities have not commented on the Israeli operations. ■
