BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- One civilian was injured in intensive Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah sites across southern Lebanon Thursday afternoon, according to Lebanese and Israeli sources.
The strikes included air-to-surface missiles at the Zaghrine area on the eastern outskirts of Al-Rayhan, airstrikes at the Khardali River area near Al-Mahmoudiya, and stun grenades on Kafr Kila, Lebanon's official National News Agency reported, adding that one civilian was lightly injured from the Kafr Kila attack.
A Lebanese army intelligence source told Xinhua that 11 Israeli raids were recorded within about 20 minutes across southern Lebanon, targeting "Hezbollah sites that had previously been hit in similar raids."
It said three of the raids were recorded about 600 meters from the Lebanese army's Khardali checkpoint.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed in a statement that the Israel Defense Forces struck "several Hezbollah infrastructures, and a rocket launcher, in multiple areas in southern Lebanon." It vowed to continue the attacks.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect, ending more than a year of cross-border clashes. The agreement stipulated Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon, but the Israeli army has maintained several posts along the border and continues to launch attacks, citing "threats" from Hezbollah.
On Aug. 18, the Israeli army reportedly established a new military post in the border region of southern Lebanon. ■
