ULAN BATOR, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Approximately 46 percent of the Mongolian territory have experienced summer droughts, the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said on Thursday.

Currently, at least 62 soums (administrative subdivisions) of 15 provinces of the country were experiencing droughts, the agency said in a statement.

According to experts, the Mongolian steppe is facing negative climate change impacts, which induced significant vulnerabilities as a result of extreme weather events such as droughts, harsh winters, dust storms, and desertification.

Mongolia has an extreme continental climate with long, cold winters and short summers.
